Memorial to martyred "Dievturiba" Latvian pagans in Riga

Pictures and text by Mark R. Hatlie

These pictures were taken in Riga during the first week of September, 2007. This memorial stands almost at the entrance to the Raina kapi cemetery, on thr right. It memorializes "Those Dievturi (modern Latvian pagans) killed by the communists in an unknown resting place."

The modern version of the traditional Latvian pagan folk religion was introduced by Ernests Brastins (memorial in downtown Riga), the first name listed on this memorial.
