Monument to the 1919 victory over Bermondt-Avalov in Riga

Pictures and text by Mark R. Hatlie

These pictures were taken in Riga during the first week of September, 2007. The stone is located on the acros the river on the bank near the railroad bridge. The marker appears to be a victory memorial, with the Latvian stars and the oak leaves, but there is neither text nor date on the marker to indicate what it is about. It commemorates the victory of the Latvians over the Russo-German force under Bermondt-Avalov in the fall of 1919.
