Memorial to aborted children in Riga cemetery

Pictures and text by Mark R. Hatlie

These pictures were taken in Riga during the first week of September, 2007. The memorial is located near the entrace of the Meza kapi cemetery. I am not certain that this memorial is exclusively for aborted children, or whether stillborn and/or SIDS victims were intended to be included as well. I initially thought it was a memorial for deported children like this one in nearby Mezaparks.

The wording reads "He/it wanted to live" (Vinam gribejas dzivot).

The visit to this location was paid for by a research grant from the
American Public University System.
"Educating those who serve."
