"Mother Russia" in Kaliningrad

Picture by Katharina Uhl, text by Mark R. Hatlie

This picture was taken in April of 2006 in Kaliningrad, formerly Koenigsburg. The text is illegible on the photo, but the marker represents "Mother Russia" in symbolic form. The marker is potentially controversial because the area is historically German, territory conquered from Germany in World War Two and completely "Sovietized", cleared of Germans and Russianized in the 1940s.
