Memorial to the victims of an accident in 1961 in Dortmund

Pictures and text by Mark R. Hatlie

These pictures were taken on 8 June, 2007 in the main cemetery (Hauptfriedhof) in Dortmund. Knapsack-Griesheim Corporation is described in one source as an oxygin factory, but I can't find any information about the nature of the accident. There were 15 people killed.

.
The stone reads "In honoring memory of the victims of the accident of January 4, 1961. Knapsack-Griesheim Corporation." (Im ehrenden Gedenken an die Opfer des Unglücks vom 4. Januar 1961. Knapsack-Griesheim Aktiengesellschaft.)
.

The visit to this location was paid for by a research grant from the
American Public University System.
"Educating those who serve."
