Memorial to Hessian Artillery at Park in Darmstadt

Pictures and text by Mark R. Hatlie

These pictures were taken on 12 February, 2006 in Darmstadt. I did not note the address, but I think this was at the northwest corner of the Prinz-Emil-Garten.

The memorial appears to have been severly damaged (see below) and put back together. It bears the coat of arms of Hessia.

The front reads, "To the Hessian Artillery and its Dead / The Grand Duchy Artillery Corps / 1st Grand Duchy Hessian Field Artillery Regiment Nr. 25 / 1460-1790-1919 / 2. Grand Duchy Field Artillery Regiment Nr. 61 / 1899-1919 / Artillery Regiment Nr. 33 / 1936-1945"
The back lists sub-units and notes that the monument was built in 1927, destroyed in 1947, and rebuilt on the 28th of June, 1953.
The sides list more sub-units.
