Memorial to Eugen Bolz at the St. Moritz Church in Rottenburg

Pictures and text by Mark R. Hatlie

These pictures were taken on the 31st of March, 2006 in Rottenburg at the St. Moritz Church. Eugen Bolz was the president of the state of Wuerttemberg when the Nazis came to power. He lost his office and spent some time in a concentration camp in 1933. He was implicated in the July, 1944 plot to kill Hitler and was executed on 23 January, 1945.

The plaque hangs on the outside wall of the church right beside the main entrance.
It reads, "Just as St. Maritius did not deny his Lord Jesus and instead offered his head to the imperial henchmen, so too did state president Eugen Bolz fall in the year 1945, loyal to his faith and his homeland as a victim of an inhuman political system". The plaque was made in 1957 by one Berthold Mueller.
